2013--FROM BIRCHES TO POND HOCKEY!

2013 has arrived!

After hectic weeks of celebrations for the holiday season, things are settling back to normal, including the winter weather.

As a first blog post for this new year, thought I would share some winter wonders from walks in the community.

Birches are my favourite type of tree and I am fortunate to see a couple of wonderful birch trees as a I walk along the sidewalk of our street. Months ago, neighbours generously gave the okay for me to take a photo or two. Just waited for the right day, which happened to be this week. The blue sky & white clouds gave a perfect backdrop for these beautiful trees. I know why Robert Frost was so inspired by Birches.

Another inspiring site, on these fiercely cold January days. is the local pond. Now frozen over, it is the site for ice skaters and hockey players of all ages. The NHL and management might be debating the future of professional hockey, but it is clear to see that the real joy of hockey is found here on the local ponds. Some of the local players kindly agreed to stage some hockey for these photos.

Lovely shots of birch branches against blue sky! Looks like we were both snapping similar shots this weekend... although your hockey players were my ice fisherman. ;-)
